Myonal (Eperisone Hcl) exhibits both skeletal muscle relaxant and vasodilator properties due to its actions within the central nervous system (CNS) and on vascular smooth muscle. Myonal has an established therapeutic value in improving various symptoms associated with myotonia by interrupting a vicious circle of skeletal muscle.
How Myonal Works?
Myonal acts primarily at the spinal cord level to depress spinal reflexes and produces skeletal muscle relaxation by diminishing the sensitivity of muscle spindles via the Gamma motor neuron system. Moreover, its vasodilatory action enhances the circulation. Thus, Myonal interrupts, in a multifaceted manner a vicious circle that muscle spasm initiates disturbances of blood flow which, in turn, produces pain, leading to further increased muscle tone.
Consequently, Myonal is effective at multiple sites in disrupting the vicious cycle of myotonia (myotonia > circulatory insufficiency > pain > exacerbated myotonia).
Myonal has been proven to be clinically effective in improving symptoms of spasticity and myotonia such as shoulder stiffness, cervical pain, headache, low back pain and muscle contraction rigidity and stiffness of limbs, which may accompany neck-shoulder-arm syndrome, scapulohumeral periarthritis, low back pain or encephalomyelopathies.
What is Myonal Used For?
Myonal Tablets are primarily used to improve conditions caused by;
- Neck-Shoulder-Arm syndrome
- Scapulohumeral Periarthritis
- Myonal is also very effective in the treatment of low back pain spastic paralysis caused by Cerebrovascular disorders, cervical spondylosis, spastic sapinal paralysis, sequelae to trauma e.g. spinal injury, head injury etc., postoperative sequelae including cerebrospinal tumor, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, cerebral infantile palsy, spinal vascular disorders, subacute myelo-optico neuropathy, spinocerebellar degeneration and other encephalomyelopathies.
The Recommended Dosage of Myonal Tablets
The usual dose of Myonal for adults is 3 tablets in 24 hours. The dose can be adjusted depending on the patient’s age and symptoms. However, it is recommended to take Myonal Tablets in three equally divided doses every day.
Side Effects of Myonal
