- Drink Tea
Teas, specifically those made from chamomile or ginger, can help buffer the acids. For the chamomile tea, just boil a cup of water, mix it with either a chamomile tea bag or a teaspoon of dried petals of chamomile and let it steep for 2 to 3 minutes. Drink an hour before you sleep.
For the Ginger Tea, just have 3 to 4 slices of ginger simmered in 1 to 2 cups of water. Drink 20 to 30 minutes before each meal.
- Eat Apple, Banana and Mustard
These are known acid neutralizers. Have some before, during, or after meals.
- Drink Fat Free Milk or Skim Milk
The calcium, which is abundantly present in milk is one known and proven acid “buffer” and is, in fact, the active ingredient of a number of antacids. Make sure its fat free, as fat can encourage more acid production.
- Chew Gum
Although gum is not essentially a natural product, chewing gum has been proven and tested to address heartburn. It is not the gum itself, but the saliva produced when chewing that is effective in neutralizing stomach acid. It also helps the acids recede back to the stomach and out of your system. Try chewing a piece of gum after meals, particularly those that are sugar-free.
